The Secret to Improving Achievement: Lessons from Union City’s Early Childhood Program.

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

How has the Union City School District been successful at shrinking the student achievement gap between its low-income Hispanic students and their wealthier peers? One key to the district’s success has been its high-quality, full-day preschool and kindergarten programs. Union City’s Early Childhood Principal and the New Jersey Department of Education’s Early Childhood Program Specialist will share research on the impact of quality early childhood education on achievement as well as strategies for developing a challenging curriculum across all grades, setting high expectations, creating language-rich environments that support children’s native language and English acquisition, and partnering with parents and the community. Union City has been recognized nationally for its successful transformation involving hard work and a strong sense of professionalism and pride that has been sustained for a decade.
